DigNA Webinar 2: PEARL-DNA Continues Co-Organising the Webinar Series

Following the successful launch of the DigNA webinar series, co-hosted by PEARL-DNA coordinator Tomaz Karcnik, PEARL-DNA has been invited to lead the promotion and communication of the series.

The second DigNA webinar, “Introduction to Error Correction and Coding for DNA Storage,” took place on Thursday, 27 February 2024. It featured Eitan Yaakobi (Technion & DiDAX project) and Thomas Heinis (Imperial College & NEO and DNAMIC projects).

This webinar focused on the growing potential of DNA as a medium for long-term data storage. Like all storage technologies, DNA is prone to errors during data writing, storage, and retrieval, making error correction codes essential for ensuring data can be retrieved with complete accuracy.

Eitan Yaakobi and Thomas Heinis explored the critical role of error correction and coding techniques in enabling reliable DNA data storage. They discussed the key challenges in maintaining data integrity in DNA storage systems and examined how advanced coding schemes and error correction algorithms address these issues to guarantee data accuracy.

Designed as an introduction at the intersection of biology, computer science, and information theory, the session provided valuable insights into the current state of error correction in DNA storage. It was tailored for scientists and professionals, including those with limited expertise in biology, chemistry, or computer science, who are eager to explore the cutting-edge science and technology driving DNA-based data storage systems.

The third webinar, planned for April 2025, will focus on DNA synthesis for data storage. Follow DigNA LinkedIn to stay updated with the registration details. Recordings of the previous webinars are available on the PEARL-DNA YouTube channel.
